Collection for Alambama Tornado victims

Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office’s Explorer Post 106 will collect non perishable food and canned goods, batteries, diapers, water and toiletries for residents of Center Point, Ala., and Jefferson County, Ala.

People may drop off donations from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the Rutherford County Courthouse in downtown Murfreesboro and Sam’s Club on John Rice Boulevard. Also, Explorers will collect the goods from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday at the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office lobby at 940 New Salem Highway. Donations will be accepted at the sheriff’s office from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday until Feb. 3.

Explorers will deliver the collected items to the Explorer Post Feb. 4 to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, said Cpl. Scot Appleton, the Explorer’s co-advisor.

“The Explorers (in Alabama) are excited about working with us,” Appleton said. “The sheriff’s office said the need is great.”
