UFC 138-Munoz vs. Leben: bonus payouts

James Begley-Staredown MMA
It seems as though the British MMA fans can’t get enough of the UFC invading their country from time to time. The fans show a feverish response to the caged action, especially when fighters from their homeland shine in their performances. UFC 138 and the fights featured on the main card were all quickly paced action packed bouts with not a single contest going the distance. Ironically it was a fight on the Facebook steamed under card that received the nod for “KO of the Night” Che Mills put an exclamation mark on the only fight on the preliminary card to “not” go to the Judge’s score cards. Mills delivered a savage but beautifully placed knee strike that set up yet another strike from his knee to drop Chris Cope, follow up with a couple of more shots and pick up the extra cash for his efforts.
The co-main event fight for the main card saw British MMA star and UFC newcomer Brad Pickett taking on another recent UFC acquisition Renan Barao. The Brazilian team Nova Uniao which also trained UFC Featherweight champion Jose Aldo has apparently set its sights on dominating the weight classes under lightweight and Nova Uniao bantamweight offering Barao took some hard shots but landed a few of his of his own before jumping on Pickett like a virus and choking him out in the first round. The results of the fight may have happened quick, but the action that took place in that short time span earned Barao and Pickett the “Fight of the Night” award.
Terry Etim had been absent action for 19 months and when he got back inside the cage at UFC 138 he got to work fast and jumped a fully committed guillotine choke from the standing position to bring Eddie Faaloloto to the mat and force him to tap in a mere 17 seconds. Etim’s brilliant grappling display earned him the thumbs up for “Submission of the Night” and a solid boost in pay from the $280,000 split between the four awesome competitors at UFC 138 and the payouts are as follows.
