Kwik Mart: Best Fried Chicken in Murfreesboro
I am many things: a lover of music, avid watcher of science fiction, and consumer of caffeine … and I’m connoisseur of fried chicken. As such, I always am on the hunt for better fried poultry fare. Fortunately for me, I think I’ve found it.
It was completely by chance, of course, as one particular day a few months ago, I was famished from a long day of winter classes at MTSU. Since I didn’t feel like cooking when I got home, I had my eyes peeled for something good to pick up and munch on the way home. I hung a left onto West Lytle, and just a couple of blocks down the road, I was struck by a sign bearing the two most beautiful words ever written: “FRIED CHICKEN.”
Okay, so there’s nothing particularly special about those words, but at the time, they may as well have been “GUARANTEED JACKPOT WIN.”
Anyway, I went inside, and lo and behold, it was right next to the door: a case full of edible goodies: fresh looking chicken, potatoe wedges, wings, and one of the handwritten signs caught my eye: two breasts, three potatoe wedges, and a roll for $4.99. So not only does Kwik Mart have chicken, but they have the best price I’ve seen on it in the Boro.
Not only did it look good, it tasted great as well. The coating is a bit on the salty side, so if you’re no lover of sodium, beware, but for me it was heaven. It was juicy, too, and when I say juicy, I don’t mean greasy; I mean chicken juices dripped on my shirt.
I’ve been back several times over the last few months, in varying stages of hunger, and my experience has been the same every time (except for once when they were actually sold out), but with product like theirs, I completely understand how that could happen.
So if you’re looking for some tasty poultry, I highly recommend the local hole-in-the-wall Kwik Mart. You can find it at 302 North Maple Street (at the intersection of West Lytle), across the street from Mesh.
