The Annual MTSU Blue & White Spring Football Festivities
If you were not able to attend this year’s annual M.T.S.U. Blue and White game, then you missed out a few things. Sunshine, food and hard-hitting being the most memorable.
First off, the ladies of Kappa Delta held their 7th annual Wing Fling. This is a chicken-wing cooking competition involving numerous restaurants, sorotities and fraternities. Kappa Delta then donates all proceeds to The Exchange Club. This is an organization aimed at ending child abuse. Last year alone, they helped out 3,000 children and their families. You don’t need me to tell you what a great group of young women Kappa Delta are, their actions just did that. Thanks for putting back into the community ladies.
After you’ve now waded through a sea of grills and smokers, Floyd Stadium’s the destination.
The white won this hard-fought scrimmage 56-42 in front of 3,000 fans.
With Dwight Dasher playing only one series, we got to see a lot of quarterbacks Logan Kilgore and Jamal Ramsey. Kilgore went 21-34 for 344 yards and 2 scores. Ramsey went 11-18 for 60 yards. Although without the red-jerseys, (red-jerseys are held to flag-football rules) these guys would have been making plays with their legs. Both seem to have great awareness in the pocket with excellent foot speed.
On the receiving end, Garrett Andrews had 5 receptions for 109 yards while Arthur Williams had 6 receptions for 70 yards and 1 score.
Ten different running backs saw action with the most notable being William Pratcher. He had 3 rushes for 48 yards and 47 of those coming on one scamper down the sidelines.
The defense definitely made their presence felt with hard hitting up front and good cover reads in the secondary. Defensive end Jarrett Crittenton (that’s 6’6, 275 pound Mr. Crittenton) had 10 tackles, six for loss and 3 sacks. The position to keep an eye on is cornerback. Four departures (2 being players who quit) have this position thin and in need of guys stepping up. They did a good job on this day and will need to keep doing so in order for bone- rattling Sammy Seamster to stay at safety. I love watching this young man hit.
At half-time, the spring trophies were presented. The Terry Whiteside Award is the most honorable. It is presented to the young man who represents the community and his team by exceling in academics, community service, campus activities, football and strength training. This year’s recipient is safety Jeremy Kellem. Congratulations Mr. Kellem on your deserving award.
So as we approach the “long-haul” known as summer, rest assure that this Blue Raider squad is every bit as exciting as last year’s. Well-coached, hard-hitting and big play capability will entertain and please us once again. Let’s get out there and support these guys every chance we get. They work hard and deserve it.
And I love the summer, but I sure can’t wait for the fall.
GO BLUE!!
